Heathcote Public School (HPS) is a comprehensive primary school in one of Sydney’s southern suburbs. It is situated in close proximity to the Royal National Park and is a member of the Community of Schools on the Park (COSOTP). This community is comprised of twelve schools including eight primary and two secondary schools, a special needs school and the Royal National Park Environmental Education Centre.
There is an equal emphasis on the promotion of academic, sporting, cultural, technological and citizenship success. In keeping with our school motto success follows effort our students are actively encouraged to strive for personal and whole school success in all they do.
Our teachers create positive learning environments for their students and are committed to ensuring their teaching is relevant for 21st century knowledge and skills acquisition. To this end our students are offered well-balanced curricular and extra-curricular programs. Literacy and numeracy acquisition are our highest priorities, and technology is pivotal in ensuring our students develop these essential skills.
In recent years environmental education has assumed ever-growing importance and our students and staff are enthusiastically engaged in environmental education programs.
HPS is known for its warm and nurturing atmosphere and for the combined efforts of all staff members in making this so. The wider school community is keenly involved in the life of the school and works cooperatively to support and promote its educational and social programs. The dedicated parent body consistently provides ongoing practical and fiscal support for the educational programs within the school.
Over recent years enrolment numbers have steadily increased and the growth has been
sufficiently stable to warrant the school’s reclassification from a P4 primary school in 2013 to a P3 primary school in 2014.
